Living and working in Oldham
Oldham is surrounded by natural beauty, reservoirs and rolling hills offering sights of the peak district and easy access to parks, walks, independent coffee shops, eateries, and pubs, along with family-friendly leisure activities.
At Oldham’s heart is a lively urban town and vibrant multicultural society. The busy retail environment and great transport connections into Manchester make Oldham a fantastic place to spend your downtime or to use as a base for wider city or countryside exploring. Oldham can meet every education requirement, offering outstanding primary and secondary state schools, as well as private schooling options.
Royal Oldham Hospital is conveniently located just off the M62 with excellent transport links. The hospital has a large Emergency Department, which acts as a Major Trauma unit, and also provides a wide range of services for Women and Children, operating busy Maternity and Level 3 Neonatal units in a purpose-built centre and delivery of a Gynaecological hub.
The site acts as a hub for emergency high-acuity general and colorectal surgery across Oldham, Bury and Rochdale. The opening of a brand new £28 million ward extension in 2024 has boosted capacity for surgical care and brought significant benefits to the local community and residents as well as greater learning and mentoring opportunities for colleagues.
Outside of the hospital grounds, Oldham delivers extensive community services, providing integrated care to adults and children across the locality. An example of this includes the state-of-the art HSJ award winning Oldham Community Diagnostic Centre, helping local people to receive prompt diagnosis, and quicker care.
